The Story
The original Painkiller started at a little beach bar on White Bay called The Soggy Dollar on the British Virgin Island of Jost Van Dyke. When pulling up to the beautiful white sand beach by boat, the only way to get to the bar is to jump in and swim… and therefore, pay with your soggy dollars!

The then owner, Daphne Henderson, created the original version of the Painkiller Tropical Cocktail and became locally famous because of it. Pusser’s Rum founder Charles Tobias caught wind of the popular drink and of course had to get to Jost to sample it. He loved it so much he tried to get the recipe from her, but Daphne kept her secret to herself. Charles was not going to give up, so one afternoon after “killing some pain” he snuck one of the drinks onto his boat. Off he went back to his home port on Tortola to attempt to copy it.

His version was close, but ended up a bit less sweet than hers. In an attempt to prove his was better, he initiated a taste test with 10 patrons at the bar. They unanimously agreed that his was indeed better and the current Painkiller was born!
